After just a few months in charge, reports suggest INEOS is already exploring the possibility of cutting Ruben Amorim’s Manchester United tenure short by appointing Massimiliano Allegri, a seasoned coach with six Serie A titles to his name.
Man Utd Eyeing Allegri to Replace Amorim
Looking back at INEOS’ decisions over the past year, their efforts to revive Manchester United haven’t yielded the desired results. Despite a lackluster Premier League campaign, Erik ten Hag was handed a new contract following the FA Cup triumph, only to be dismissed months later.
United’s summer spending spree, which brought in players like Leny Yoro, Joshua Zirkzee, and Matthijs de Ligt, failed to spark a revival, reinforcing the belief that their FA Cup win was more about Manchester City’s off day than United’s resurgence.
INEOS also parted ways with sporting director Dan Ashworth shortly after his highly anticipated arrival from Newcastle United, adding to the turbulence at Old Trafford.
The appointment of Ruben Amorim initially seemed like a step in the right direction. The young, highly-rated Sporting CP manager was fresh off a victory over Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City. However, after just five wins in 16 Premier League matches, United find themselves in the bottom half of the table, leaving INEOS contemplating another managerial change.
Allegri Tipped for Man Utd Job
Reports from Spain indicate that United are considering Allegri, who has been without a job since leaving Juventus last season. The 57-year-old boasts an impressive Serie A legacy, winning five league titles with Juventus and one with AC Milan.
Despite his winning pedigree, questions remain about whether Allegri is the right fit for United. His preferred 3-5-2 formation, which relies on wing-backs rather than wingers, could create similar tactical problems to those Amorim currently faces.
Additionally, Allegri’s last Serie A triumph came in the 2018/19 season, raising doubts about whether he’s still at the peak of his managerial career. Whether the Italian would be the solution to United’s woes or merely another short-term fix remains to be seen.
