“From Anfield Aspirations to Premier League Reality: Sepp van den Berg’s Bold Career Move”

Despite Liverpool’s efforts to retain him, promising Dutch defender Sepp van den Berg made the bold decision to leave Anfield this summer in pursuit of regular first-team football. In a candid revelation, he shared that while conversations with Liverpool’s new manager Arne Slot took place, his mind was already made up before pre-season even began.

“I had discussions with Slot, but even before pre-season, I had made it clear to the club that I needed to leave to get consistent game time,” Van den Berg admitted in an interview with Voetbal Primeur. “Liverpool later told me I had impressed them and they wanted me to stay, but I didn’t see that happening for myself. This was entirely my decision, and I’m happy to be playing every week in the Premier League.”

While his short-term future lies away from Merseyside, Van den Berg’s ambition remains unchanged. “I would be lying if I said I don’t dream of returning to Liverpool. That thought still motivates me.”

Now making strides in England’s top flight with Brentford, the young defender believes his current path is the right one for his development. With a hunger to prove himself at the highest level, Van den Berg’s story may not be over at Liverpool just yet—his Anfield dream is merely on pause.
