Real Madrid’s head coach, Carlo Ancelotti, has drawn a comparison between Luka Modric and Paolo Maldini, highlighting their ability to maintain excellence over an extended period.

Maldini, widely regarded as one of the greatest defenders in football history, boasts numerous records for appearances, has won 23 trophies, and served as AC Milan’s long-time captain.

Meanwhile, Modric continues to lead both Real Madrid and the Croatian national team, demonstrating remarkable longevity in his career. Considered one of the best midfielders of all time, he has secured 27 major titles with Los Blancos.

Following Real Madrid’s 2-0 victory over Girona, in which Modric scored a spectacular volley, Ancelotti was asked how the 39-year-old maintains his high level of performance.

“Luka Modric is a gift to football. I previously coached another player who excelled at 40—Paolo Maldini. Both embody what every footballer should strive to be,” Ancelotti stated (via MilanPress).

Interestingly, Modric was a childhood fan of AC Milan, inspired by his idol and fellow Croatian playmaker, Zvonimir Boban. Despite past transfer rumors, he has remained at Real Madrid without making a move to San Siro.
