Jude Bellingham, who was once a major target for Liverpool, was linked with multiple clubs as he prepared to leave Borussia Dortmund in 2023. While Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool showed strong interest in signing the talented midfielder, Bellingham ultimately chose to join Real Madrid instead.
Now, the 21-year-old has shared his thoughts on another player that Liverpool have been eyeing for quite some time—Rodrygo Goes.
While Liverpool played to a 2-2 draw against Aston Villa on Wednesday, Real Madrid were dominating Manchester City in the Champions League. Bellingham had previously scored a dramatic 92nd-minute winner at the Etihad in the first leg, giving Real Madrid a 3-2 advantage. In the return leg at the Santiago Bernabeu, Los Blancos delivered a dominant 3-1 victory, with Kylian Mbappe scoring a hat-trick.
Following the match, Bellingham was interviewed on CBS Sports and asked about Rodrygo. The English midfielder didn’t hold back, declaring that Rodrygo is the most talented player in the Real Madrid squad, even ahead of superstars like himself, Mbappe, and Vinicius Jr.
Bellingham praised Rodrygo, calling him “underrated” and highlighting his exceptional skills with the ball. “For me, he’s probably the most talented and gifted player in the squad,” Bellingham said. “The things he can do with the football… He’ll flick the ball up somehow, and you’re like, ‘How’d he do that?’ I’m twisting my ankles trying to do that.”
He also noted that Rodrygo is a selfless player who often sacrifices his preferred left-wing position to help the team defensively on the right side. “He never complains; he just gets on with it,” Bellingham added, acknowledging Rodrygo’s commitment to the team.
Rodrygo, who was signed by Real Madrid for £37 million in 2018, has developed into a key player for the Spanish giants. However, Liverpool’s interest in the Brazilian remains. Last September, reports revealed that Liverpool made inquiries about signing Rodrygo, and it was later confirmed that his camp is aware of the Reds’ continued interest.
Despite Liverpool’s attempts, Rodrygo has shown no desire to leave Madrid, expressing his intention to remain with the club as long as they want him.
