Aston Villa has been dealt a significant blow with the injury of midfielder Boubacar Kamara, who is set to miss at least two weeks of action. This will rule him out of important Premier League clashes against Liverpool, Chelsea, and Crystal Palace, along with a potential absence for their FA Cup match against Cardiff City.
Kamara, who has been playing as a center-back in recent games due to a shortage of defensive options, was forced off the field in the 16th minute during Villa’s 1-1 draw with Ipswich Town on Saturday. He was replaced by Tyrone Mings, who was also returning from an injury. After undergoing assessments, it was confirmed that Kamara is dealing with a muscular issue, which will keep him sidelined for a minimum of two weeks.
Villa’s manager, Unai Emery, is facing a challenging fixture schedule, with Kamara’s injury coming at a particularly tough time. The team’s match against Liverpool has been rescheduled for Wednesday, February 19, moving it up from March 15, which leaves Villa with only one Premier League match this month but four games in just 10 days.
Emery voiced his frustration over the tight schedule in his pre-Ipswich program notes, expressing concerns that the club’s fixture arrangements are unfair to the players. He emphasized that the authorities must consider the physical toll on the players, calling for a more balanced and rational approach to scheduling.
With Kamara unavailable, Mings is expected to take his place in the starting lineup, though his own injury struggles could make maintaining sharpness a challenge. Ezri Konsa could also step into a defensive role, though Axel Disasi, who could potentially fill in, will be ineligible for the game against his parent club, Chelsea.
Villa’s defensive depth has already been tested this season following the sale of Diego Carlos to Fenerbahce, and the current injury crisis underscores the difficulties that arose from the failure to replace him until the last minute.
