Chelsea started their Premier League match against Brighton & Hove Albion with confidence but failed to capitalize, ultimately conceding in the 27th minute to Kaoru Mitoma.

The Japanese winger expertly controlled a long pass from Bart Verbruggen before calmly finishing past Filip Jorgensen.

It was a night to forget for Chelsea, as they suffered a disappointing 3-0 defeat and delivered a lackluster performance overall. Following the loss, Enzo Maresca revealed his next steps after Mitoma’s dominant display.

Enzo Maresca Insists on Analyzing Kaoru Mitoma’s Goal

Brighton fans will undoubtedly be replaying Mitoma’s brilliant goal, but Chelsea players might have to watch it just as much.

Maresca emphasized the need for his squad to study the strike in order to prevent similar mistakes in the future.

“Until Mitoma’s goal, we were in control,” the 44-year-old told Chelsea’s official website. “After that, we lost something. We need to review it and figure out how to improve.”

Chelsea Previously Considered Signing Kaoru Mitoma

Had things played out differently last summer, Mitoma could have been wearing Chelsea blue instead of Brighton’s colors.

Reports from July suggested that Chelsea internally discussed signing Mitoma, though no move materialized. Instead, they opted for Jadon Sancho as their left-wing addition.

However, some Chelsea supporters are now questioning that decision, as Sancho has struggled, failing to score in his last 10 Premier League matches and facing criticism for his recent performances.
