Ruben Amorim stated that an important player is unwell and might be unable to play in the match against Tottenham Hotspur.
Ruben Amorim has confirmed that none of Manchester United’s injured players will be available for their Premier League clash against Tottenham on Sunday.
Speaking at the pre-match press conference, Amorim was asked about the recovery status of Mason Mount, Luke Shaw, and Victor Lindelof. His response was straightforward: “No.” He elaborated, stating that while the week had been progressing well, unforeseen issues had arisen two days prior. “We’ve encountered some challenges and haven’t recovered any players yet. There might be one or two concerns, and we’re monitoring the situation. Additionally, one player is currently unwell, so we’ll have to assess things over the weekend.”
When questioned about the ongoing job cuts at Manchester United, Amorim emphasized that his primary focus was the upcoming match against Tottenham. “Our main concern right now is Tottenham. I understand the broader issues within the club, but these aren’t new problems. While we’re facing challenges, they cannot affect the way I coach and prepare the team for matches,” he explained.
Discussing the club’s financial strategy, he stated, “It’s simple: in order to make changes, we need to sell players.”
Amorim was also asked whether he believed Ineos’ ambition of winning the Premier League by 2028 was achievable. He acknowledged the goal, saying, “Yes, we’ve discussed it. Our objective is to win the Premier League, and a lot can change in a few years. Right now, we’re in a difficult position, but we must stay committed to daily improvements and take small steps forward.”
Turning his attention to Sunday’s opponents, Amorim expressed admiration for Tottenham’s manager, Ange Postecoglou. “I have great respect for Ange. He’s a fantastic coach and a great person. I see the similarities between us—we are both dealing with similar challenges. However, with all due respect, I believe I am at a larger club with greater expectations. Ange is committed to playing football the right way, which is admirable. In this profession, we experience both highs and lows, but pressure is part of the job, especially when results don’t go our way.”
Regarding young prospect Chido Obi, who scored a hat-trick in midweek, Amorim remained cautious about discussing individual players. “I don’t want to mention names, but we have to be mindful of these situations,” he said. “We faced some difficulties this week, so we included a few young players in training. Obi was among them.”
Finally, Amorim addressed the observation that players often perform better after leaving Manchester United. He acknowledged that this phenomenon occurs in many clubs. “It happens sometimes—it’s not unique to this club,” he said. “Manchester United carries a lot of pressure. To integrate young and foreign players successfully, you need a strong foundation. When the team is functioning well and has a solid core, it becomes much easier for new players to thrive.”
