Exclusive: Two key Liverpool players have finalized new contracts—sources say it’s a done deal.
Virgil van Dijk, Mohamed Salah, and Trent Alexander-Arnold are in the final stages of their current contracts with Liverpool, fueling intense speculation about their futures.
The club has been dealing with uncertainty as all three players have been linked with potential moves away. Alexander-Arnold has been strongly associated with Real Madrid, while Van Dijk and Salah have also drawn interest, given their eligibility to negotiate pre-contract agreements with foreign teams.
If Salah does not agree to a new contract with Liverpool, Al Hilal is reportedly in a strong position to sign him, as all three players are edging closer to free agency. However, former Tottenham goalkeeper Paul Robinson has recently disclosed that two of them are on the verge of extending their deals with Liverpool.
Van Dijk and Salah Close to New Contracts
Speaking on the Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, Robinson revealed that negotiations for Van Dijk and Salah are nearing completion. However, Alexander-Arnold’s contract situation remains unresolved, and Robinson does not anticipate drastic changes even if some players depart.
This update follows an exclusive report from Mick Brown to Football Insider, stating that Liverpool does not expect Alexander-Arnold to make a final decision until the season concludes.
Robinson stated: “Based on what we’re hearing from Liverpool sources, it looks like Van Dijk and Mo Salah’s deals are nearly finalized, while Trent’s remains uncertain, which has been expected for some time.”
He added that keeping Salah at Liverpool for another two years is a logical move, as he is one of the Premier League’s best players and deserves a contract that reflects his value. Van Dijk, despite his age, is also seen as a key figure for the club moving forward.
Future Plans Under Arne Slot
Robinson does not foresee a complete overhaul of Liverpool’s squad this summer, although some adjustments are expected under new manager Arne Slot. He noted that Slot has been strategic in recognizing Jurgen Klopp’s influence on the current team while gradually introducing his own changes.
Former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher has advised against signing a direct replacement for Alexander-Arnold if he departs, citing the promising development of Conor Bradley. Many supporters and analysts believe Bradley is ready to step up, having performed impressively when given opportunities.
While Van Dijk and Salah are likely to extend their contracts, Alexander-Arnold’s future remains uncertain. However, with Liverpool currently leading the Premier League by seven points, a major squad overhaul may not be necessary.
