Real Madrid’s Vinícius Jr. has subtly responded to a group of Manchester City fans who targeted him during their recent Champions League clash.

 

The ongoing European rivalry between Real Madrid and Manchester City added another chapter on Tuesday night, with a thrilling contest that ended in a 3-2 victory for the Spanish giants.

 

Vinícius Jr. played a crucial role in his team’s triumph, providing two assists, as officially credited by UEFA. However, his standout performance came despite receiving a less-than-welcoming reception at the Etihad Stadium.

 

Before kick-off, Manchester City supporters unfurled a banner featuring Rodri holding the Ballon d’Or, accompanied by the phrase: “Stop crying your heart out.”

 

This was widely interpreted as a direct jab at both Vinícius and Real Madrid, referencing their frustration over the Brazilian’s omission from the Ballon d’Or shortlist.

 

With the match concluded and emotions settled, Vinícius was asked about the banner during a post-game interview. Speaking to Sky Sports (via Fabrizio Romano), the 24-year-old used the opportunity to fire back at the City fans, saying:

 

“The banner only gave me more motivation… they’re fans, so they can do what they want. Maybe they should focus more on chanting for their team.”
