Matt Law’s latest article for the Daily Telegraph delves into Chelsea’s reported interest in Alejandro Garnacho. However, he ultimately arrives at the same conclusion as many others—another wide attacker is the last thing the Blues should be prioritizing.

As Law highlights, Chelsea have already invested over £350 million in attacking players since January 2023, yet they still haven’t established a consistent and effective front three. While Nicolas Jackson has shown promise, he cannot carry the attack on his own. The club has cycled through multiple wide players without finding long-term solutions. Jadon Sancho and Pedro Neto were among the latest additions, brought in with the expectation of boosting Chelsea’s goal contributions.

So far, Neto has managed just one goal and two assists in the Premier League, while Sancho has recorded two goals and four assists. While these numbers aren’t catastrophic, they fall short of the impact Chelsea needs to reach the next level.

Chelsea Could Shift Focus to a Striker

Given the abundance of wingers, Chelsea might be better off reinforcing the squad with another top striker. Law suggests that the club is still monitoring the striker market in case an opportunity arises before the window closes. Additionally, they are exploring potential deals for the summer.

Ipswich Town’s Liam Delap and RB Leipzig’s Benjamin Sesko have emerged as primary targets—names that have been linked with the Blues before.

From a strategic standpoint, investing in a quality striker seems like a far more sensible move than splashing money on Garnacho, who doesn’t necessarily offer much beyond what Chelsea’s existing wingers bring to the table.

With pressing needs in central midfield, goalkeeper, and left-back positions, another wide attacker appears to be low on the club’s list of priorities.
