“He has made me an offer that is difficult to offer. If things continue to go wrong here, I just have to agree with his offer”– This is according to Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes has acknowledged that he may contemplate a transfer following discussions with a former teammate.

Bruno Fernandes has expressed that he may consider a move to Australia after his time at Manchester United, influenced by a glowing recommendation from former teammate Juan Mata. The United captain, who turns 31 in September, will have two years remaining on his contract, which runs until 2027.

With United enduring a difficult season and Fernandes previously calling for the club to align with his ambitions, speculation about his future is expected to resurface in the summer. Speaking to Australian outlet Optus Sport, he acknowledged that relocating Down Under could be an option when he eventually departs Old Trafford.

Discussing Mata’s experience in Australia, Fernandes said: “After the videos he sends me—showing the lifestyle, playing golf, relaxing on the beach, the stadium atmosphere, the passionate fans, and the overall conditions at the club—I could see myself considering it. If he’s still there when I decide to move, it would be an even better choice because he keeps telling me how much he loves the country and its culture.

“He’s even mentioned that he regrets not making the move earlier in his career. You can tell how happy he is there, and he’s only had positive things to say. During Christmas, while I was dealing with wind and cold, he was sending me videos of sunshine and beachfront living—it looked incredible.”

Mata, a fan favorite at United after his 2014 transfer from Chelsea, left for Galatasaray in 2022 before spending time at Vissel Kobe in Japan. He currently plays for Western Sydney Wanderers, where he has contributed a goal and two assists in 13 appearances.

Fernandes also reflected on his strong bond with Mata: “We have a great friendship. From my first day at the club, he was someone I admired—always full of positive energy and incredibly intelligent. I’ve learned a lot from him, not just in football but also in life.

“We still talk, and he gives me advice on things he believes can help me improve. Having someone like him, who has achieved so much in football, is invaluable to me.”
