Chelsea may still secure a front-of-shirt sponsorship deal for the second half of the season following the appointment of Todd Kline as their new commercial chief, sources have revealed to Football Insider.
The Blues began this season without a primary shirt sponsor for the second consecutive year after their agreement with Infinite Athlete ended. The previous £40 million-per-year deal with the U.S.-based sports data company, signed in September last year, was not renewed for the current campaign.
According to Football Insider on September 26, Chelsea initially sought a £50 million sponsorship deal for this season but were forced to significantly lower their asking price.
Todd Kline officially began his role as president of commercial operations at Stamford Bridge on November 11, following a period of gardening leave from Tottenham earlier this year. Sources claim Kline is now focused on securing a sponsorship agreement to prevent a potential revenue drop for the club.
However, any deal made this late in the season is expected to be worth less than £20 million.
Chelsea’s Sponsorship Talks and Strategy
Chelsea have rejected lucrative offers from gambling companies, reflecting their policy shift away from such sponsorships following fan backlash. Talks have reportedly been held with Qatar Airways and two other airlines about becoming the club’s new shirt sponsor.
The team’s strong performance so far this season—currently sitting third in the Premier League table—is seen as a key advantage in ongoing negotiations. However, the absence of a deal could affect their compliance with the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR), as front-of-shirt sponsorship significantly contributes to their revenue.
The Blues recorded a club-high revenue of £512.5 million for the 2022-23 season but also reported an £89.9 million loss. PSR regulations allow Premier League teams a maximum loss of £105 million over a rolling three-year period.
In related news, Chelsea is reportedly open to a reduced offer for Mykhailo Mudryk, according to insider reports.
