Following the 1-1 draw against Ipswich, Amorim reportedly urged the club’s hierarchy to secure reinforcements, emphasizing the urgent need for key positional upgrades to strengthen the squad.

Manchester United may secure a new left-back for manager Ruben Amorim as early as January, according to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano. While the club’s long-term priority is to sign a left-sided defender in 2025, the timing depends on factors like financial constraints and market opportunities.

Romano confirmed Amorim emphasized the urgency for reinforcements after the 1-1 draw against Ipswich Town, stating:

“Manchester United are determined to bring in a proper left-back. Following the Ipswich game, Amorim reiterated to the management that a player in that position is essential by 2025. Whether it happens in January or summer depends on price, opportunities, and several other factors.”

In his first match, Amorim used Diogo Dalot as a left wing-back, with Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia returning to the bench after injuries. Shaw later replaced Jonny Evans as a left centre-back in the second half.

Among potential targets is Bayern Munich’s Alphonso Davies, whose contract expires next summer. Both United and Real Madrid are monitoring the Canadian star for a possible move in 2025.

Reports suggest Amorim’s transfer budget will be more modest compared to Erik ten Hag’s tenure, during which nearly £200 million was spent on five signings before the 2024/25 season.
