**Euro Paper Talk:** Manchester United’s hopes of a midfielder reunion have been dashed, with a second potential signing ruled out by Fabrizio Romano; Tottenham has secured an agreement for a £21.3 million La Liga star.

Manchester United’s ongoing transfer activities have become a central topic in the football world, with two key midfield moves encountering obstacles.

The Red Devils have reportedly rejected several offers for free agents and opted not to pursue additional midfield signings in this transfer window.

Notably, Sofyan Amrabat, who was on loan at United last season, was expected to strengthen the midfield. However, his inconsistent performances in the Premier League, despite some late-season highlights that contributed to United’s FA Cup victory, led the club to decide against making his loan from Fiorentina permanent.

 

After United’s decision, Fiorentina attempted to renegotiate Amrabat’s transfer, first by offering a reduced fee and then by proposing an extended loan.

Despite these efforts, United stood firm, ultimately leading to Amrabat securing a loan move to Fenerbahce under José Mourinho.

Interestingly, Amrabat will now face Manchester United in the Europa League group stages, adding intrigue to his departure.

 

Meanwhile, United was also linked with Adrien Rabiot, who became a free agent after leaving Juventus. The French international drew interest from several Premier League clubs, including United.

His agent, Veronique Rabiot (also his mother), entered talks with these clubs. Speculation arose that United might pursue Rabiot as a potential replacement for Christian Eriksen, who was rumored to be moving to Anderlecht.

 

However, transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano quickly dispelled these rumors, revealing that while Rabiot was offered to United multiple times, the club consistently declined, showing no interest in replacing Eriksen with Rabiot.

Rabiot’s high wage demands also deterred many European clubs, making a move within Europe unlikely. Ultimately, Rabiot reportedly agreed to a lucrative deal with Saudi Arabian club Al-Nassr, joining former Juventus teammate Cristiano Ronaldo.

 

This move underscores the growing influence of the Saudi Pro League in attracting top European talent with substantial contracts. For Manchester United, the decision to pass on Rabiot reflects a strategic approach to squad building, while for Rabiot, it marks a new chapter in his career in the Middle East’s evolving football landscape.
