“Forget about Martin Zubimendi and focus on this amazing young lad from your Premier League rival. It will be easy to convince him since he’s a big fan of Liverpool Since when he was a young lad. He’s the best option for us” – This is according to Jamie Carragher as he highlights the Liverpool transfer option he hopes will come to fruition this month.

Liverpool have yet to secure a summer signing, despite being linked with a move for Newcastle United winger Anthony Gordon.

Liverpool have yet to secure a summer signing, despite being linked with a move for Newcastle United winger Anthony Gordon.

The Reds have reached the end of the Jurgen Klopp era, though the German manager left with a parting message.

On the final day of the 2023-24 season, Jurgen Klopp soaked in the Anfield crowd’s admiration for the last time and even sang his own tune.

Klopp belted out, ‘Arne Slot, la la la la la,’ effectively revealing Dutchman Slot as his successor before Liverpool officially announced the move.

Slot, who has transitioned from Feyenoord, has already made his mark on the team, with Harvey Elliott praising his ‘elegant’ style of play.

However, Slot hasn’t had the opportunity to work with any new signings yet, as Liverpool has had a very quiet summer in terms of transfers.

Jamie Carragher on Anthony Gordon to Liverpool

Liverpool has been in pursuit of a new number six but has faced a significant setback.

Martin Zubimendi has rejected a move to Liverpool and will remain with Real Sociedad instead.

Liverpool might stay quiet in the final weeks of the transfer window, but one name that keeps surfacing is Anthony Gordon.

The Newcastle United winger, who grew up in Merseyside and supported Liverpool despite coming through the Everton ranks, made a significant impact for Newcastle last season, scoring 11 goals and providing 10 assists in 35 Premier League games.

At 23, Gordon has emerged as one of the Premier League’s most dangerous wingers, with Liverpool’s interest being confirmed by Amanda Staveley in July.

Jamie Carragher has weighed in on the potential move to Anfield amid talks of a possible swap deal involving Joe Gomez. Carragher mentioned on the Blood Red podcast that such a swap could have been aimed at helping Newcastle comply with the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability Rules.

Newcastle ended up selling Elliot Anderson and Yankuba Minteh instead, managing to adhere to the PSR requirements. However, Carragher still hopes to see Gordon join Liverpool and remains ‘really interested’ in the possibility of the deal happening this month.

While it might be challenging to pull off, Carragher is optimistic that Gordon could find his way to Liverpool somehow.

“The Anthony Gordon and Gomez one, I think that was maybe out of our hands and was more of a Newcastle transfer in terms of the PSR,” Carragher said. “That was a transfer I would’ve liked to have seen go through, and if there is still something in that between now and the end of the window, that is something I would be really interested in us doing, whether that is just Anthony Gordon or Joe Gomez being involved,” he added.

**Uncertainty Surrounding Diaz**

Liverpool’s current priority is signing a defensive midfielder, especially given the depth they already have on the left wing. Cody Gakpo occupies that position for the Netherlands, and both Darwin Nunez and Diogo Jota can step in if needed.

However, concerns remain about the future of Luis Diaz, Liverpool’s first-choice left winger. According to HITC, Barcelona are interested in Diaz and could still make a move for him this summer.

Should Diaz leave, Liverpool might consider investing in a replacement, potentially bringing Anthony Gordon back into the spotlight. Newcastle will likely resist any attempts to lure Gordon away, but the rumors will persist, given his childhood connection to Liverpool.
