Manchester United need a left-back for next season after their main options were unavailable for much of the previous campaign.

Fabrizio Romano has exclusively told GIVEMESPORT that the club has ‘genuine’ interest in Bournemouth youngster Milos Kerkez as they aim to strengthen their squad.

 

Luke Shaw played only 12 Premier League games last season due to injuries, while Tyrell Malacia, who had a promising first season after signing from Feyenoord in 2022, missed the entire season with a knee injury that sidelined him for 11 months.

Although both are capable of starting for United, their injury history raises concerns, prompting the club to seek players who can consistently feature. Kerkez has been linked as a potential solution.

 

He could be the fourth target for the club, joining ongoing interests in Matthijs de Ligt, Manuel Ugarte, and Joshua Zirkzee.

Reports in June indicated that Manchester United were interested in the young Bournemouth star following his impressive debut season in the Premier League.

Romano tweeted earlier in the summer that United were monitoring the Hungarian, who Bournemouth acquired from AZ Alkmaar last summer.

However, the Cherries are expected to demand a ‘high transfer fee’ to let the 20-year-old leave after just one year at the club.

United have shown interest in several new players since INEOS became minority owners aiming to enhance the squad.

However, left-back remains a concern due to Shaw and Malacia’s limited availability over the past year. Joshua Zirkzee, Manuel Ugarte, and Matthijs de Ligt are also on United’s radar.

Kerkez excelled for Bournemouth this season, despite arriving as a relatively unknown player, albeit with a strong pedigree.

Having played youth football in Serbia, Austria, and Hungary, Kerkez secured a major move to AC Milan at 17 after a phone call from Paolo Maldini.

However, first-team opportunities were limited, leading him to transfer to Dutch club AZ Alkmaar, where he became a first-team regular, scoring three goals in 33 Eredivisie appearances.

Having smoothly transitioned into the Premier League under Andoni Iraola on the south coast, Kerkez’s performances have caught the attention of Manchester United. A move could materialize if Erik ten Hag decides to pursue his signing.
