Manchester City are in the market for a new goalkeeper this summer, considering options to bolster their squad.

While Ederson remains a top choice, his recent struggles with injuries have highlighted the need for reliable backup.

Stefan Ortega, the current second-choice keeper, has only a year left on his contract, prompting Pep Guardiola to seek a promising young goalkeeper who can eventually challenge for the starting position.

City’s proactive approach to signing young talent from abroad is evident, with players like Jeremy Doku and Josko Gvardiol being previous acquisitions.

They have reportedly reached out to the representatives of Lazio’s Christos Mandas, a 22-year-old goalkeeper who has impressed since joining the Italian club last summer.

Mandas, who is also attracting interest from Manchester United, has showcased his potential with solid performances, conceding just seven goals and keeping five clean sheets in 10 appearances.

Both Manchester clubs are vying for Mandas’s signature, with Manchester United also looking to strengthen their goalkeeping department.

The Red Devils are eyeing a replacement for Altay Bayindir and are reportedly dissatisfied with the performances of their current first-choice goalkeeper, Onana, who has struggled to justify his hefty price tag since joining last summer.

Mandas’s profile aligns well with Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s strategy of investing in young talents with promising futures.

However, Lazio is keen to retain Mandas and is planning to discuss a contract extension with him in the coming weeks.

The Italian club intends to offer improved terms and a one-year extension to keep him at the Stadio Olimpico until 2029.

This presents Manchester City and Manchester United with a limited window to persuade Mandas to join them instead of committing to a new deal with Lazio.
