“Casemiro looks like he needs some rest so we are replacing this young defensive genius” – Manchester United is poised to replace Casemiro with a rising star touted as the ‘new Clarence Seedorf,’ unearthed by Erik ten Hag.

Manchester United may have found a natural successor to the defensive midfield role in Kobbie Mainoo, should Casemiro depart the club this summer as anticipated.

Wes Brown, a former Red Devils defender, sees similarities between the 18-year-old and the legendary midfielder Clarence Seedorf, particularly noting Mainoo’s performance during his breakthrough season.

Mainoo has quickly become an integral part of Erik ten Hag’s midfield setup, featuring in 19 matches since recovering from a pre-season injury in November and starting the last 12 Premier League games.

Initially deployed in a holding midfield role during Casemiro’s absence due to injury, Mainoo impressed with his ability to receive the ball from the defense and initiate attacks.

As Casemiro returned, Mainoo transitioned into a more advanced position and excelled as a box-to-box midfielder in Ten Hag’s system.

With United expected to sell the 32-year-old Casemiro this summer, Mainoo could seamlessly step into his shoes.

Brown, who enjoyed considerable success at United, has lauded several aspects of Mainoo’s game, recognizing the youngster’s potential.

“You know what? He does [remind me of someone]. I watched him, obviously at the youth team, but I have been watching him,” Brown told Squawka.

“[He’s] very composed, and I know there’s a lot talked about him. But to me, I think he plays like Clarence Seedorf. Even the way he moves, the way he controls the ball, shields the ball.

“I faced Clarence a few times, and he was absolutely top-notch, physically imposing, fulfilled his role impeccably, and possessed the composure to perform for a top team in big matches. I would compare him to Clarence Seedorf.”

Mainoo and Casemiro are anticipated to feature alongside each other once again when Liverpool visit Old Trafford in Sunday’s pivotal FA Cup quarter-final encounter.

“For those of us who collaborate with him, it’s not unexpected to witness his scoring prowess and excellent performances in matches,” Casemiro told Inside United.

“I believe we have a well-rounded player in Kobbie – assertive, adept at ball retention, a player who actively seeks possession.

“I would assert that if Kobbie maintains his current trajectory with this mindset, persists in training diligently, and adheres to the correct methods, Manchester United will possess an exceptional player for the next 15 years.”
