Liverpool midfielder Dominik Szoboszlai has disclosed that he was omitted from the Carabao Cup final squad due to a decision made by the medical team.

The Hungarian has been sidelined since late January following a recurrence of a muscle injury suffered in a match against Chelsea.

Despite returning from a hamstring problem earlier, he faced a race against time to regain fitness for the League Cup final.

Szoboszlai was among several absentees from Jurgen Klopp’s selection due to injuries.

Mohamed Salah and Darwin Nunez were also unavailable, resulting in opportunities for youngsters Jayden Danns, Lewis Koumas, and Trey Nyoni on the bench.

The 23-year-old expressed frustration with the Liverpool medical staff, indicating that he would have preferred to play in the final if given the choice.

He revealed his disagreements with the doctors, emphasizing his eagerness to return to action.

Reds assistant manager Pep Lijnders addressed the situation during a pre-match press conference, stating that Salah, Nunez, and Szoboszlai were undergoing an important build-up to the final but ultimately were not fit enough to participate.

Lijnders outlined the injuries affecting other key players, indicating that they would require more extended periods of recovery.
