The 2023/24 season has been a forgettable one for Manchester United, marked by a disappointing start and struggles in both the Premier League and the Champions League.

Despite recent improvements, they sit sixth in the Premier League standings, trailing fourth-placed Aston Villa by eight points.

Their Champions League campaign ended in disappointment, finishing bottom of their group behind Bayern Munich, FC Copenhagen, and Galatasaray.

Despite a recent seven-match unbeaten run, United suffered a setback with a 2-1 defeat to Fulham, sealed by a late goal from Alex Iwobi.

A significant topic of discussion this season has been the performance of winger Antony, who has managed just one goal and one assist in 25 appearances.

Speaking ahead of their match against Fulham, Erik ten Hag acknowledged that Antony hasn’t fully demonstrated his potential.

He emphasized the need for Antony to prove himself and acknowledged his talent, but noted that recent performances haven’t reflected it.

With competition for places increasing, including the return of Amad Diallo from injury and the emergence of Omari Forson, ten Hag stressed the importance of players seizing their opportunities.

Looking ahead, ten Hag highlighted the need for competition and flexibility in the squad, indicating that Marcus Rashford may not necessarily be restricted to a central forward role. United’s next challenge will be a clash against local rivals Manchester City next weekend.
