Manchester City have faced criticism for their handling of sister club Troyes amid their pursuit of winger Savio.

While the January transfer window was relatively quiet for City, aside from Kalvin Phillips joining West Ham United on loan, speculation about summer transfers is already underway.

Multiple reports suggest that Manchester City have made a move to acquire the services of Troyes winger Savio, who is currently impressing in La Liga while on loan at Girona.

According to Fabrizio Romano’s tweet, “Manchester City agree deal to sign Savio from parent club Girona in the summer. Documents to be signed in the next days.

Despite bids from German and English clubs, Savio will join #MCFC. He’s now 100% focused on Girona to end the season in the best way.”

However, there has been significant criticism surrounding the deal. Despite Troyes signing Savio as their record acquisition in 2022, the player has yet to feature for the club.

The young player was promptly loaned to PSV Eindhoven and subsequently joined Girona on loan for the ongoing season.

Throughout this time, Troyes has suffered relegation from Ligue 1 and currently finds themselves at the bottom of Ligue 2.

Former Troyes player Jérôme Rothen is discontented with this situation.

“They might assume that because it’s Troyes, we won’t be vigilant. I find that troubling,” Rothen expressed on Rothen s’enflamme.

“I just want to say to them, ‘Leave! French football doesn’t require you!’ I’m not hesitant to say it; we don’t require them. They sold us the notion of a club that was supposed to establish itself in Ligue 1, but as it stands, they’re at the bottom of Ligue 2.

“He’s a talented player who could have made a difference in Troyes… It frustrates me. Through this player, everything is crystallized. They’re using this club as a stepping stone for certain players.

“With Savio, we’ve reached a breaking point; we must speak out… And if protests aren’t enough, then we’ll boycott the stadium; we’ll make them understand that they need to depart.”

Manchester City’s indifference
Undoubtedly, it’s a lamentable situation.

Troyes is suffering under the control of CFG, as one of their players, who could potentially reverse their fortunes, excels elsewhere.

The club is merely a pawn in a larger scheme, and their supporters lack the power to alter it.

However, it’s unlikely that the authorities at CFG will be overly concerned; this is their strategy in action. A network of clubs spanning the globe allows them to cultivate talent and channel the best of it directly to City.

Savio is only 19 but has propelled Girona into an unexpected title race against Real Madrid with his seven goals and seven assists.

That’s considerable potential, and City stands to gain significantly if he continues to progress and performs as impressively in Manchester someday.
