Manchester United is considering a move for Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting in the upcoming January transfer window to address their goal-scoring struggles this season.

With just 22 goals so far, the Red Devils are actively seeking additional attacking options, particularly for underperforming center-forwards Rasmus Hojlund and Anthony Martial, who have collectively managed only two league goals.

Reports from The Athletic suggest that United is eyeing four potential candidates from the Bundesliga to strengthen their attacking options, including established figures like Thomas Muller from Bayern Munich and the emerging talent Serhou Guirassy from Stuttgart.

Timo Werner, currently with RB Leipzig, has also emerged as a target for United, with ongoing talks to secure the 27-year-old, just a year and a half after his spell at Chelsea.

However, the most surprising addition to United’s considerations is Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting, seen as a cost-effective choice due to his expiring contract with Bayern Munich.

The 34-year-old striker had a less-than-impressive stint in England with Stoke City in 2018, recording only five goals in 32 games during the club’s relegation season to the Championship.

Despite his modest performance in England, Choupo-Moting gained attention after joining PSG, where he became a cult hero by contributing to the team’s journey to their first Champions League final.

His recent tenure at Bayern Munich has been more successful, reaching a career-best of 17 goals in the previous season. However, this season, he has played a supporting role to Harry Kane.

The extent of Choupo-Moting’s willingness to move to Old Trafford and the seriousness of United’s interest in him remain uncertain. The potential signing reflects the club’s strategic approach to address their striking deficiencies with a mix of experienced and emerging talent.

Shifting focus, Erik ten Hag’s team appears close to resolving the situation with outcast Jadon Sancho.

The former club Borussia Dortmund seems poised to take the English winger back on loan, signaling a potential resolution for Sancho’s playing situation and providing an opportunity for him to rediscover form and confidence.

As the January transfer window approaches, Manchester United’s pursuit of attacking reinforcements and the potential inclusion of Choupo-Moting in their plans will be closely monitored.

The dynamics of these potential signings could significantly impact the team’s performance in the latter part of the season and shape the narrative of United’s pursuit of success in domestic and European competitions.
