Manchester United’s choice to reintegrate Mason Greenwood into the first team comes after the withdrawal of allegations involving attempted rape, assault, and controlling and coercive behavior.

The 22-year-old forward has been impactful with seven goal involvements in 13 appearances. While his contract with United runs until 2025 with a one-year extension option, discussions of a potential free transfer were ongoing before his temporary stint at Getafe.

Getafe’s president, Corres, has expressed the club’s belief in Greenwood and their commitment to exploring ways for his permanent stay. Although not delving into specific cost negotiations, Corres highlighted positive interactions with Manchester United. The recent change in shareholding at United adds complexity to the situation.

Corres stated, “We have discussed looking at the situation and seeing what they propose because there has also been a change of shareholding there at Manchester United.” He emphasized ongoing discussions, recognizing the early stage of considering either extending for another season or finalizing a permanent transfer.

Expressing faith in Greenwood, Corres stressed the importance of continued collaboration with Manchester United. He acknowledged United’s satisfaction with the way Greenwood has been treated, not only by Getafe supporters but also by the broader Spanish community. Corres emphasized the need to defend Greenwood’s reputation.

With 16 months since his last game, Corres anticipates Greenwood regaining form, potentially returning to action in January or February. Getafe remains optimistic about Greenwood meeting expectations.

Reports indicate that Greenwood is content with life in Spain, and his performances have attracted attention from top clubs. Real Madrid, Barcelona, and Atletico Madrid, along with Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund, have monitored Greenwood. His positive reception in Spain and interest from other major clubs suggest a promising future for the talented forward.

As negotiations unfold, the dynamics of Greenwood’s potential permanent move to Getafe remain a topic of continued discussion and evaluation between the player, the Spanish club, and Manchester United.
